Nacido en Jamaica, Andru demostró interés por la música desde pequeño. Viajó por Inglaterra, Francia y Holanda intentando ser músico sin éxito hasta que volvió a su Jamaica natal.

Allí conoció al productor Eric Foster-White (que trabajó con Whitney Houston, Britney Spears o Hi Five) que le produjo su primer disco en 1995, denominado “Andru Donalds”. De este disco, salió su gran éxito “Mishale” que llegó al número 4 de las listas de Estados Unidos y fue todo un éxito en Europa.

Luego se tomó un descanso para preparar su segundo disco, que quería que fuera más personal, y así en 1998 publicó “Damned If I Don’t”.

Tras lanzar su segundo disco, recibió la llamada del productor Michael Cretu, el artífice de Enigma, que quería que Andru colaborase con él. Junto a Cretu aprendió mucho sobre la música de todo el mundo, lo que le abrió a Andru nuevos horizontes.

Y así ha seguido trabajando junto a Cretu hasta ahora, incluso escribiendo alguna que otra canción para su esposa, Sandra Cretu, la cuál ha sacado el disco “The art of love” este año 2007.
